For the final project of our Curriculum, our students take part in a cross program group project. Our FX TD’s work together with our Compositors to create a sequence inspired by the film “San Andreas.” This project’s objective is to not only produce a visually appealing scene, but to also combines our two programs and showcase the students’ talents to the fullest. Our teams work together over the period of four to six weeks to recreate a 5 shot sequence referencing an action scene where a devastating after shock tears apart the city around our fleeing actors. Multiple Effects passes including partial building collapse, shattering glass, fire & smoke, shattering/cracking skytrain lines, small and mid-sized debris, and dust systems are to be generated in Houdini and blended back into our action sequence. The Compositors will also be tasked with digital set dressing and set extensions to create pre-existing damage to the structures.
