About Our Introduction to Houdini Program

We created the Introduction to Houdini program for aspiring visual effects artists who want to explore FX and see if it’s the right fit for them, as well as for those who already know they want to get into Houdini but aren’t sure where to begin.

Whether you’re just curious or ready to take your FX work more seriously, this self-paced, online course gives you a solid foundation in Houdini, an industry-standard software used in visual effects, along with key concepts used by FX artists.

FX Particles for Beginners

The course introduces you to Houdini’s interface and guides you through a practical beginner project using Particles to create an FX orb.

How It Works

The course is online, pre-recorded, and self-paced, allowing you to work through the lessons at your own pace while getting a hands-on introduction to Houdini and the fundamentals of FX.

FX Workshop: Intro to Houdini & Particles

Learn the fundamentals of particle simulations in Houdini, a foundation for creating effects such as dust, sparks, smoke, and other dynamic elements.

Create an FX orb while learning how particle systems work in Houdini.
Understand how data flows through Houdini and how VEX, groups, forces, and noise affect particle simulations.
Control particle motion through velocity, forces, wind, and collisions.
Explore wedges, rendering, and compositing to bring your simulation to the final result.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have your own particle project and a foundation you can apply to other particle-based FX.
